PROFILE

Description & Access

Kawasan is the most-visited canyon in Southeast Asia. The descent threads between three distinctly coloured waterfalls — Kawasan I, II, and III — with several mandatory jumps in the upper section before the rappel sequence.

Approach

30M

From Matutinao village (parking lot, signposted), follow the concrete path upstream past Kawasan I. Cross the river on a footbridge, then a 25 minute trail climbs through the jungle to the put-in above Kawasan III.

Descent

3H

Four rappels (4m, 12m, 8m, 18m) interspersed with 4-9m jumps. The first rappel lands in a pool; flow is gentle most of the year but the bolts are wet so use redirects. The 18m drop is the photogenic third tier — anchor is bolted skier's-right, expect spray.

Return

20M

Float and swim back to Kawasan I, then walk the path back to the parking lot. Most operators sell a shuttle ride back to Badian town if you parked further up.

Note: Sundays are crowded with tourist groups — start before 09:00 to avoid queues at the rappels.
